Qld Government has released a Directions Paper on Fisheries Reforms

The Queensland Government has released the “Directions Paper of fisheries reforms” to ensure all fishers and the broader community are aware of the Government’s direction on how best to manage the priority fisheries and the next steps.

The directions paper can be found by following this link https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/business-priorities/fisheries/sustainable/sustainable-fisheries-strategy/fisheries-reforms

This discussion paper includes proposed changes to the crab fishery, east coast inshore fishery and east coast trawl fishery. The proposed changes include, amongst other things, changes to size limits, bag limits and the introduction of boat limits for selected species.

There will be an opportunity for people to provide input into the details of the reforms when proposed regulatory amendments are released for consultation later in the year.

The reforms are expected to be implemented by September 2019.
